Finally, a time when chicks with sticks and hookers can unite! The 2012 Special Olympics USA Scarf Project is all about letting our Special Olympiads know that we support them. Just think of the opening ceremonies and all the Olympiads in their scarves made by supporters.

This craftalong is designed to support our supporters. We need support too! Because we all have to knit/crochet in the same colors, seeing everyone's interpretations is really neat. If you haven't already joined and would like to participate, we would love to have you! Yes, even if it is the day before your deadline! Happy Crafting!


Quick Info Guide

Colors: Both red and blue (and only red and blue) in any combination you see fit.(Super Saver with Soft, if you choose). The colors are...

Patterns: You can knit or crochet, and use any pattern. If you would like, they provide free patterns for your convenience that meet the size requirements.

Size: Between 54" and 60" long, and approximately 6" wide. Please include fringe or other adornments within these measurements.

How to Enter: Recruit other knitters/crocheters and have them PM me informing that you recruited them. For every scarf they make and post a pic of in this thread, you get 1 point. If you recruited a non-craftster you can just post pics of the scarves they made as proof. Whoever gets the most points wins. If there is a tie I will use random.org to select a winner.

Deadline: 14 February 2012

Prize: $25 Amazon Gift Card

You can do anything (legal and not against policies) to recruit. You can use social media, your signatures, PMs, even request a scarf in a swap! (I actually did this and heath_face is contributing a scarf to the NC games!) You can do anything you think will gain an interest.

Remember, even if you recruit 1 person and they make 1 scarf, you have helped create 1 more smile on an athletes face.

I wanted to participate in this a couple of years ago, but the store never had the yarn in stock (and the shipping was too pricey). I'm definitely going to be haunting the yarn bins to see if I can get the yarn to make 1 or 2 scarves this year. My state doesn't seem to be listed, so I'll have to send them to the next state over

Yay! I am glad we have some interest!  Uh oh, now I'M worried about finding the right yarn in stock    Well, at least I have access to JoAnns, AC Moore, Michael's, and Walmart. One of them must have those colors...

I know a handful people who participate in the Special Olympics and really enjoy it. I haven't got a chance to ask them about what they think about the scarves project yet though.

I am not exactly sure when I am going to start the scarf. I haven't picked up my yarn yet(as you know), but I figured getting the word out there sooner was more important. I have been actively thinking of what design I am going to choose and I believe this would be a great opportunity to do double knitting as it is something that I just haven't done yet.

How about you guys? Got any patterns in mind?

Good choice! I think that is my favorite one of the provided patterns. You have the patience of a saint for wanting to weave in all those loose ends! Can you tell I have ADHD? 

Just fyi I have added a quick info guide to the first post for quick reference so you guys don't have to keep searching through the site and so newbies can get the gist of what this craftalong is about without having to go through links to see if they are interested. Is there anything that you guys would like to see in it that you think would be helpful?
