June 11, 2011 was San Diego's SlutWalk and I participated wearing this lovely number...

Underneath i'm wearing the bikini bottoms that I made worn as briefs...

This was my first time working with sheer fabric and thankfully the lady at the fabric store explained to me how to sew sheer fabric. She explained to me to use tissue paper (the kind that you use for gift wrapping) to sew with the chiffon so that the feed dogs of the sewing machine can catch the fabric. This was the best tip cuz it worked WONDERFULLY and it's easy to rip away once done.

Me being resourceful and reusing tissue paper that I saved from Torrid...

I made everything from scratch except for the bra foundation (I just used an old strapless bra) which I sewed the gold ruffles onto. The fabrics are swimsuit material so it's perfect for the pool & beach!

The bottoms were very easy to make. I just simply traced my underwear but extended the height of the waistband to create the high waist. EASY PEASY!

Thx for looking!

So cute!  I'm jealous of your sewing skills.  Sheer and stretch fabrics always get the best of me.

I wish I had the guts to wear that sassy lil number. Sounds like you had a lot of fun. How do you manage to sew the stretch w/o the fabric getting all wavy at the hems? That is the bane of all my stretch fabric attempts.

Oooh, you look hot!
I've done some serious swearing while sewing sheers before- I'm going to have to try that tip.

Also, that bikini is darling! I'm curious, how does the old bra base hold up in the water?

"use tissue paper when sewing with sheers" is now locked away forever...thank you for sharing that tip that you picked up!

Sheer & stretch scare me. So kudos for not being afraid of them...

Love the high waist bikini bottom. Have never seen anything like that....if you said the words "high waist bikini bottom" to me, I would think "old lady bikini" but I would be wrong, it's really freaking cute.

I sew mostly with a serger, so maybe that's why... Huh?

I haven't worn the swimsuit in water yet, but i would imagine it would be just fine especially since i'll be mostly wearing it as a halter.

well, "old lady" bikini is basically like the vintage bikinis that you would see on pin up models, that's how i thought & envisioned it! Thx so much!
