This is the hoop I made for the Hoopla Round 5 swap. My partner received it a couple of weeks ago, so I can post pictures!

My partner edenkitty had a lot of octopuses and squids in her wist, so I got the idea to do a kind of octopus tea party.

The challenge for the swap was for the hoop to be monochromatic, so I used seven different types of green. I used two strands of DMC embroidery floss throughout. The stitches I used were mainly satin stitch, back stitch, and long and short stitch. The hoop is 8" in diameter.

This was the first time I used such a huge amount of filling stitch! I'm happy with how it turned out, though.

I drew the pattern using a photo of an octopus as a reference. I may use this pattern again, maybe with different colors.

I love the way the tentacle suckers came out!

I was going to leave the eye plain, but my mom gave me the idea to embroider the eye with two colors. I tried to keep my stitches as tiny as possible. I like the effect it made.

This was also my first time putting a back on a hoop.

I free handed the lettering.

I loved working on this hoop so much, it was hard to send it off to its new home! Wink

I have to say, this is one of the nicest hoops I've ever seen and I love it so very much! Thank you for being an awesome partner!

Oddly enough my sister also has a cool monochrome(ish) octopus hoop. She has one that has gears instead of tea pots, and is more symmetrical! I personally love this hoop and my husband thinks it's rocking too!

Also... THIS ROCKS!

Eeeeeee. So nicely crafted, and such awesome subject matter. I especially like the way you stitched the tentacle suckers.
