Nyan Cat Cross Stitch!

I discovered Nyan Cat a little over a month ago, and immediately decided I needed to make a cross stitch of it. I hadn't done a cross stitch in YEARS, so it was interesting getting back into it. I made the pattern myself (the ultra hard way by hand, not easy computer way), and used 16 count Aida cloth and 3 strands of DMC for the cat (because I wasn't sure how much to use ) and 2 strands for the rainbow once I figured out what I was doing. 



You can't tell in the above picture, but there is bunching around the cross stitch and I'm not sure how to fix it.


Also, nyan cat needs your help! From the beginning, I knew I was going to frame this and not put it in a hoop. But I want to do a small border around the edge. I'm not sure if I want to do "nyan" repeated or a dark blue border with small stars like in the video.

I like your idea for the border, a lot.

As for the puckering, try ironing it with a damp cloth over it. That may help.

Thanks, all! Nyan cat makes me so happy!  And yes, the new time bar on the video is great! I think I'll do a nyan border in rainbow colors, maybe? Thanks for the tip Subee! I'll try it out. Hopefully it will work.

Although I think mine's a lot smaller than yours (i.e 1 pixel= 1 stitch), so kudos to you for making it even bigger!

And yeah, I would say stars for the border, if you're still looking for opinions

That looks fantastic Tyuriwen! Yes, mine is bigger. I did 4 stitches to 1 pixel, so his finished height is 2.375" and length is 6.675". I still haven't done a border yet. I'm thinking of doing a combo with stars and rainbow "nyan."

If you google nyan cat cross stitch, there's a really cool one on a dark blue background that has the stars in the background, it looks neat.
As far as the fabric bunching, you're probably pulling a little to hard while stitching, I know when I started trying out cross stitch I had the same issue.

I haven't been on here is a while! I stopped working on this for a bit, then went back to it, and figured out the border. It is a combination of "nyan" in rainbow colors and stars on a dark indigo background. I'm almost done with it, and will post a pic of the finished project.

monicong, I've never made a digital pattern before, but I will try to get one on here for this!

Thanks for the comments! I might be stitching too tightly. I never thought of that. But ironing it did help with the bunching.

I just finished a Nyan Cat cross stitch as well! It was so fun! The pattern I used is from Birdie Stitching (found at http://www.wingtips.org.uk/ along with tons of pokemon patterns!)



What is really awesome is that I used glow in the dark thread for the little stars ^___^
The only thing I'm sad about is I attempted to use thread I had instead of going out to buy new thread just for the pattern and the only problem with that is that the grey is a bit darker than it should have.
Also, if I make another, I will start with dark blue fabric instead of white so that it really looks like he's running through space!



The only change I made to this last picture is I added more glowing stars LOL couldn't stop myself!

XenLoLo, it is awesome and so cute! I love that you used glow in the dark floss for the stars. I wish I had known about it before doing mine. If I make another one (but smaller!) I want to do it on dark blue cloth, too. And thanks for posting that pattern site! I already know I'm going to be doing some projects from it. I also used what colors I had already. The colors I had were fairly close, though.

Well, a little over a year later, it's finished!  

I still have to figure out how to frame it, as I didn't leave a lot of excess cloth around the Nyan Cat. Oops. It will fit in an 8"x10" frame, so I just have to get creative with matting.

I do have a pattern made up for this larger Nyan Cat and border, but have to figure out how to have it to where people can download it. Because it might be too big to just have the image posted where they can right click it to save it.

My next Nyan Cat project will be this (Just the Nyan Cat, rainbow, and the purple pixels above the cat*):

This one is a bit unusual. The Nyan Cat site is currently down, but on this page (the 404 page), the background music is Lavender Town music from Pokemon. I will definitely use glow in the dark thread instead of white on this one.

* I found out that the purple pixels are the Missing No glitch from Pokemon Red and Blue. I didn't play much Pokemon, so didn't make the connection between the pixels and Lavender Town music.
