This is actually a project I knitted last year. But it took me so long to make, that by the time I was finished, it was too cold to wear it! Roll Eyes It isn't cold now, so I was finally able to take pictures of it.

I designed it myself. I knitted it mostly in the round, so that I didn't have to worry about the front and back not matching. I used Tahki Cotton Classic.

Here is a close up of the neckline and cable panel. I was very happy with the way the neckline turned out! I split the center cable so that it flows naturally.

I figured out all the measurements, increases, decreases, and other parts of the pattern using this piece of note paper. Since I knew what I wanted it to look like, I just had to refer to the paper to check the number of stitches I needed, or the placement of the increases.

I love how my top turned out! It's exactly how I pictured it! Cheesy

That top looks awesome! I love how the cables aren't too cabley. Perfect for summer. Smiley

What works best for me is to take a lot of measurements and make many swatches. I tried out a few different cable combinations before I even bought the red yarn. I also looked at patterns for other tank tops to get a feel for how much yarn I would need. Hope that helps you, you should definitely try designing!

mandraco- Thank you! I wanted to make sure the cables wouldn't be too bulky.

sarahj2001- Thanks! Smiley

Very cute! I love it! Smiley You could probably get mileage out of this in the colder weather too: as a vest! Just a nice solid color thin(ish) long sleeved tee underneath, and viola!!

Thanks! Yeah, I might try it out as a vest. It could be a good layering piece.
