PORTRAIT STITCHALONG!
the "rules"
~make a pattern (or just start stitchin'  Wink) and stitch up a portrait of anyone...a family member, friend, pet, movie star, rock star, yourself, yourself as a rock star Grin, an imaginary person, ANYONE YOU WOULD LIKE.
~no size or color limits...just have fun!

Please join in on this! It's a very open stitchalong. Have fun!  Smiley

Does anyone have any suggestions on websites/tutorials/whatever for making a pattern out of a photograph? I'd love to do a pic of my grandparents

Great stitchalong idea, trying to decide who to do. (Should do my children, want to do a cartoon character)

Hmm. Either embroidery or crosstitch would work I think.  Embroidery, I'm guessing you'd just trace the lines. I can probably do that much

on ephemeracollector's post ( http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=35744.0 ) about her latch-hook rug she describes how she made a pattern by enlarging her picture at kinkos and then taping a grid on a transparency on top.  I would think that would work fairly well for cross-stitch.

OR, this may be easier.  go to http://www.microrevolt.org/ and use their knit-pro by uploading your picture and they'll convert it for you for free.  unfortunately, the patterns are pretty small, so when i was making my pattern for a cross-stitch, i took my original and cut it into 4 equal parts in photoshop.  then i uploaded each picture so when I put them all back together in the end, it was larger.

hope that helps!

I hope this is an open-ended stitch-along - I have a portrait I want to do eventually, but Lord knows when I'll get to it.  The design is done - that's the main thing, right?  Right?  heh heh.

i started one more than a year ago...if I can find it, this may inspire me to finish it. I was almost done, as I recall...where did I put it?

Here is mine!  This is my kitty, Jim.  I have been meaning to do this for some time, and this stitchalong helped me to get my act together. Cheesy
