Blog post with more of a tutorial:
http://secretpieshoppe.blogspot.com/2011/06/bracelets.html

I used rubber bracelets and scraps of material to make three bracelets while on a road trip. It was an easy project for in the car. :-)

Basically I just sewed one end of a strip of fabric to the bracelet, wrapped it around and sewed the other end. I made it so that the thread is only visible on the inside. I'm wearing the red and green ones today and have already had compliments on them. :-)

Sewing one end to the bracelet:

Wrapping it around:

I'm hoping to acquire more of these rubber bracelets so I can make more. I have tiny wrists so I'm brainstorming ways to make them smaller.

pretty good idea Smiley have you tried heat shrinking them? I don't really know if it would work, but maybe throw them in the dryer or toss them in a pot of boiling water to try to shrink them up a bit?

also, I remember doing this with headbands in the early 90's. Except we just hot-glued it in place instead of sewing lol

I hadn't thought of trying to shrink them...good idea!

My thought was to cut the bracelet and trim about an inch off. Then I think it'd work to wrap it and add a button to one side and a loop of fabric to the other to clasp it on. If I can find more bracelets that's what I'll try next!

actually, your idea is probably far easier and has less potential for mess Smiley
Also, buttons are awesome, so using buttons makes my day

Great idea!  My hands are small too.  I can never find bangle bracelets to fit me.  My kids have several of these bracelets that they don't wear anymore and I have tons of scrap fabric.  Thanks for the idea!
