Sleeping Beauty Poppet

I finished. I love her. I didn't want to send her away, but alas, it wasn't meant to be. She was for the Mini Poppet Swap 3.


Presenting Briar Rose, aka Sleeping Beauty. She is an actual poppet, with tail, but sans ears and completely no needle sculpting... anywhere. The jointing is weak, but like a salt shaker if you stand her up exactly right she will stand up! Her hair is wool locks in a pale blond with some darker blonde highlights. Each lock is needle felted into her head. Her eyes are hand-painted in dark metallic blue and metallic rust orange with ice blue streaks. I used large eyes and made her eyelids low for that sleepy look.


She wears a removable headband (wired inside to keep form) with a tiny flower and a gibbous inspired dressing gown. The gown is tied at her arms and waist with deep purple satin ribbon. I put in godets in velvet and satin, and also used pieces of lace. Here is the back of her dress:


The vines are rattail in a shiny moss color which is hand-couched. Each rose is hand stitched of four different red fabrics: cotton, satin, rayon and velvet. There are a few ribbons stitched in below each rose bud for a leafy effect. Side detail:


At various spots I machine quilted, sometimes in silver, and added a sprinkle of beads too:


She carries her spindle loaded with some undyed wool roving that I spun up..
