We made owls for our upcoming wedding cake topper! My fiance Brian has never ever used Sculpey before, and he made the green owl by following my instructions and mimicking my methods. So proud of him!!!

The eyes are a button within a button, with puffy paint for the iris. The bellies are modpodged fabric. We painted them rather than making them out of coloured Sculpey because we had more control over the colours that way.

The nest was my doing: it's hairy-looking (dark green) yarn that I coated in white glue and varnish, wrapped around a saran-covered bowl, and then pulled off when dry. The green dried really dark, so we spray painted it white, which should be good as our cake is going to be orange or purple--not sure yet.

If you want to learn more about our rather unusual wedding, you can check out our blog at projectpriceless.blogspot.com

Cheers!

I am always open to personal swaps...I'm always on the lookout for new bags, shawls, punk/steampunk accessories, Altoids tins, etc. As a professional illustrator/fine artist, I can offer something crafty, or something more artsy. Let's talk!

Super cute owls. Very creative with the mod podge fabric and the nest, sure adds to the charm. Nice work!

The big picture may be amazing but it's the little details that inspire.
