Since I moved back in with my parents last summer, I was using two ginormous bulky dog beds at the foot of my bed for the "kids". It didn't leave much space at all, and just wasn't very attractive. I started this project a couple of months ago, but lost steam. I was mad at myself for letting this sit for so long without completing it. It took such a short time to create the top out of the squares, and there it sat. Just the poor lonely top. I even cut the side strips out of black fleece, but a couple of months had passed and I must have lost two of the strips.

Today, I got the proverbial "bug up my butt" to FINISH IT ALREADY!! I discovered that I did NOT have enough black duck cloth (heavy canvas) to make more strips for the sides, but it was absolutely a perfect fit for the bottom. Hmm... what to use for the sides since I couldn't find the other black fleece strips? I dug around and found the leftovers from last weekend's project of curtain surgery. I'll post those later. CRAZY story though, the measurements for the side strips were a PERFECT MATCH for the amount I had cut off of my white heavy linen-type curtains. I couldn't believe it. It was *meant to be*. If I had finished the dog bed when I'd originally started it, I wouldn't have the awesome heavier white sides, using the leftovers from my curtain surgery!

But what to do with the two black fleece strips I had now? I didn't want them to go to waste. Oh hey! I bought some clothesline at JoAnn's the day before yesterday, wanting to make coiled fabric bowls, why not use the black fleece and make PIPING?! Yeeessss....I'm so glad I did. I think it "makes" the whole project.

Husky tested, husky approved.

Are you SURE this is for us?

Yes, I suppose it'll do. At least it matches my fur.

Reinforced zipper for washing ease

Actually, the 4" foam I got from JoAnn's wasn't wide enough. I took a serrated bread knife and sacrificed an old foam dog bed and used my trusty hot glue gun to bring the pieces together. It worked perfectly.

SO much better than the before:

After! TA DA!

Thank you! Loki is still lying on it right now, but Rowan jumped up on the bed with me. Such a spoiled princess. *lol*

It was worth the wait, because it turned out great!  So smart to put a zipper in, too; so many affordable dog beds don't come with one and well... dog beds get gross fast.

First of all the bed is great! You did an amazing job! And your dogs attitudes made me laugh.

Second I'm so jealous because you have huskies! My favorite kind of dog!
