I work at TJX and when I saw this dress in our stores I absolutely fell in love with the print. Sadly it was only made for toddlers and young girls so if I ever wanted to have one of my own I needed to make it myself. Of course that wasn't such a big hurdle!  Grin

I bought two of the dresses from Marshalls in the same size and took them apart, only keeping the skirts, waist tie and zipper. The rest was fabric from my stash and some self drafted patterns.

I work in the department that designed the original dress and when I wore it in to work everyone was doing a double take. It was awesome  Grin

And the original dress:

Too awesome! I can't even count how many times I've walked past a section of little girl clothes and think they're the cutest fabrics and how I wish I could wear them. I think you've solved my problem! Cheesy

Gorgeous.  I love your recon, with the great contrasting sash and off-the-shoulder band-thing, much better than the (adorable) original dress.  This is totally motivation to work on my sewing skills, I'm always admiring the fabrics of little-girl dresses in the store.

aw it's adorable! I love how everyone got a shock out of you wearing a toddler's dress Cheesy if you don't mind me asking, how'd you make it into an adult size? did you sew the 2 skirts together and add a bodice? do you think you could add a tute maybe? it's okay if you don't! the dress, however, is GORGEOUS!  Shocked I love the print around the bottom!  Wink

That's exactly what I did! I bought two of the dresses, carefully took them apart, sewed the two skirts together, and regathered them onto a bodice that I made seperately.

Great job, I love the print too.

I think I may need to steal your idea as kids' clothes are always more fun than adult ones.

That toddler dress is so cute! Your version captures the original version nicely while still making it adult.

Also, I too find myself wanting toddler/children clothes sometimes, luckily I'm ultrapetite and sometimes they actually fit me.
