For the longest time I had been planning on paying hommage to Hayao Miyazaki's genius in the Studio Ghibli produced MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO (1988)! I started with the romper and somehow created this in about an hour and a half. Considering I didn't even have access to my pins, I'd say I did a pretty awesome job! I also added a headband I'd created with a small glitter foam leaf on the side to protect me from the rain Wink And of course, I compensated for the lack of clothing by wearing giant boots!

This costume ended up being used in a shadowcast performance of Rocky Horror (not sure what the theme was for that month lol)! I didn't get any other pictures of me in it but my lovely friend Sam now owns my design and has taken some excellent pictures of herself which highlight the details:)

I can't wait to make a cat bus costume Cheesy

Oh that is adorable. Great idea. I love anything Studio Ghibli! Funny thing is about 16 years ago I picked up a copy of My Neighbor Totoro at a yard sale for my kids, they watched it so much it got annoying. But we have fell back into love with it again! To bad Disney redid it, it is not as good as the Fox version. Smiley I can't wait to see your catbus costume! He is my favorite character.

Thanks! I love Ghibli as well, Myazaki is a genius. I'm pretty sure if I had known about Ghibli when I was younger I probably would have watched it that many times too lol I'm glad there are so many Totoro fans on craftster! I'd love to do a whole series of these Smiley

So pretty! Did you just use a plain grey leotard for the base and stich the pieces on?

Yes, I started with a plain heathered jersey romper and then applied the Totoro pieces Smiley
