Seems to me it could be solved by sewing the waist tie as a sandwich in the middle with the bib coming out the top and the skirt coming out the bottom. Not actually attaching the bib to the skirt at all. The tie would have to have a front and back in that case.

my tie does have a font and back, but I'll defiantly try the sandwiching thing!
My mom mailed me my pattern from home and I just got it today, so I plan on making another apron prototype!

I revised my apron bib
I revised the bib on my apron. I made it a bit smaller
Here's the before and after pic
After is the unbleached cotton, didn't want to waste any nice fabric on my experiments!
