Crafting to keep insanity at bay.

When I first saw this post http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=368118.0 I fell absolutely in love with the idea and vowed to make my own interpretation of it. Fast-forward to 6 months later, I'm in a Book Arts class and we just learned how to do coptic binding and were assigned to make a book with any open-ended theme we chose. I picked "home" and the feelings I have towards living in my own apartment for the first time. All of the collaged papers are found in my apartment and include a receipt, a netflix page, a letter, pictures of me and my bf, etc. This is going to be pretty picture heavy so I'll stop talking now  Wink

Here's how you would see the book in chronological order

The door knob stamp was handcarved by me and the cover paper was stamped all over with a block stamp to create an abstracted representation of the brick that makes up my apartment building.

Here's a picture of the actual binding of the book

Here's some close up detail shots of some of my favorite pages

I'd love to hear any comments or crits. I fully intend to make another book or two, or maybe more of a diagram in this manner. Love it!  Smiley

Edit: Updated pictures of the last few pages can be found here

This not only takes creativity, it takes some careful planning and logical progression!  What a lovely glimpse into your life! You have highlighted the many things your own space offers you...just what art is suppose to do: bring out the emotions from our everyday experiences!

I can't wait to hear what your fellow students and teachers think of this wonderful book!  I know you are proud of it and I think it is excellent!  Well, done...and your inspiration was also awesome!

Umm, this is AMAZING! Pinning and hitting this rocks. I like how you used the diff. papers on the roof pieces-it adds just the right touch. Great job!

This is amazing! I'm hitting This Rocks and wisting. I love the way you tied everything together, the paper cutouts, and the end was just great! Awesome job. Smiley
