I was flipping through magazines at the bookstore the other day and saw a hoop similar to this. I wish I could remember the name of the magazine Undecided. Anyway, I really liked how they had used stamps on the hoop instead of stitched letters. I thought it looked nice and also, what a time saver!!

Here's my version! I used linen fabric, alphabet stamps with a permanent ink pad, embroider floss and wool felt for the bird. I didn't intentionally make the lettering so wonky but I'm okay with it turning out that way.

Thanks for looking!

Oh thanks! You should definitely try it. It's really easy! I did a few practice stampings first.

I thought someone stole your ostrich pic but now I see it's still you, just with a new name Smiley.

Love the stamping! I think it's more endearing because of the slightly wonky stamping  Smiley I might have to try something similar  Wink

I actually love how the lettering looks. This will make me sound older than I am, but it reminds me of a heavily usaed typewriter, there were always some letter keys that wouldn't stay in line.

Love it!  It is very simple but it definitely works well that way! I also enjoy the wonky lettering: it adds character Wink

This is so cute!! I love the sweet little bird!! The letters work perfectly! Even if they are a little kittywompus. The typewriter letters are perfect! Thanks for the inspiration! I've been wanting to embroider more, but i'm just terrible at it, and far too lazy to actually fill in any letters and such. This makes life so much easier and looks amazing!! Great job!!!

Very creative!  Plus this way you don't have to worry about making the letters look right...although if there was a mistake I bet it isn't as easy to take out as a stitch.  Be Careful! haha

For the felt cutting, I draw my design with a disappearing ink pen on the back side and then use my good scissors to cut around the pattern.

I think the key is to use a nice wool felt. It seems to hold together better than craft felt.

I buy mine from this etsy shop...

This turned out so great! I love the letter font for your stamps.
I have been wanting to try this for a while.
For the Mel Brooks Swap I stamped the swap details on the back of a hoop for my partner. It worked out pretty well but my ink was getting all smudgy and as it was on the back I let it slide.
Did you use any kind of fixative or "heat set" for this?

Shocked What a great idea, it is the stitching if writing which really puts me off adding it to hoops. Stamping here I come. Or xylene transfers.

I love the idea of stamping the back with the swap details! Really special and much faster than stitching the letters.

I used a permanent ink pad for the stamping. It smelled pretty terrible - like a giant sharpie marker - but it didn't get smudgy. I don't think it could be washed or anything though.
