Calling all die hard spinners! Let's have a Sheep to Shawl Challenge!

September 2, 2011 -- Enter now!  Post your entry as a NEW TOPIC here:  http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?board=468.0

The sheep to shawl challenge will run from June 2nd- September 1st with the entries due from September 2nd- 8th.

For this challenge you must:
  • Take a naked (natural) roving or fleece and dye it
  • spin it
  • knit/crochet/weave/other-fabric-making-technique it into a Shawl or shrug.

If you choose to change around the process a bit,  (ie. spin/dye/knit, or spin/crochet/dye) that is fine too.  You must have all 3 steps though.

Prizes for this challenge will be announced at a later date, but you bet there's going to be fiber!

PRIZE!
A 15$ gift certificate to Larkspur Funny Farm Etsy! Clicky here to check out the fabulous things Grace has in shop!

Answers to questions:

Do we only have to post pics of the final product or also of the process? (the process is probaly the most interesting Cheesy)

In progress shot would be great!  To have proof that you did it all yourself, at least 4 pics, showing the beginning to end.

Yeah, so do we post progress shots here or what? How is the winner chosen?

Progress shots would go in a thread you start at the end of the challenge.  Either I'll get them to make me a folder, or I'll get you guys to post them in the spinning completed Projects board with "Sheep to Shawl" in the title.

There will be a poll at the end and it will be a vote to decide the winner Smiley

If I get a job or am paid enough for my services in the next two months then I am totally in! Fingers crossed (especially the getting a job thing)! Also, the due date is my birthday so maybe I'll get really lucky and nag some one into giving me fiber for this?.. Cheesy Currently spinning my first yarn with some brown fiber to practice. After several restarts it's coming along nicely.

Hmm interesting! I have a whole fleece washed and ready to dye and spin! I'm planning to dye with plants and am saving all my onion shells for some dark yellow. Never done this before and I've never participated in a challenge  Wink

I could be up for this, especially if I don't need to process the fleece (though I have some around for processing, I'm just not into that at the moment.)  Wink

Yeah, so do we post progress shots here or what? How is the winner chosen? Can't be Belladune's choice because she would obviously choose her favorite Craftster, me!  Wink

This may be just the incentive I need to process the fleece I have at home and actually do something with it.   Smiley

Cheesy  No problem Paumelia!  Hope you can find some undyed wool and make something up!  I bet what you'd make would be beautiful!  Heck, everyone's creations are going to be awesome. I just hope I end up with time for all this too LOL
