Ooooh I love it!   We have bees in our backyard too...three hives just like you  Smiley  I'm still experimenting with different uses for the wax.  I'll have to google the solid perfume you were talking about, what a great idea.  I love to hear about other backyard bee keepers, it seems like we are few and far between.  Love your post!

I follow your blog as well! And it's true, you really ARE an inspiration. Your posts always make me dream of my own little farm I want to have some day. Smiley
I'm a sucker for honey and your post makes me want to eat a fresh slice of bread with butter and yummy local honey which I'll do in a minute! Grin

I can personally attest to the fact that MW's farm is awesome and a wonderful place to be. It's gorgeous, there is an amazing petting zoo ( Cheesy ) there is great space for wandering around and mucking about (especially down by the creek) and if you hang out long enough she will feed you and the food is always fantastic! Love ya girlfriend!  Kiss

Now I want a slice of bread with butter and honey, Morrigan!  I'm planning to do a tutorial on the solid perfume, kari.  I'll PM you when it's available.  You can come over and muck about any time you want, cackle!  We'll make goat milk mozzarella and homemade pizza.   Wink

Great to see another beek on here. I just did my first harvest of the summer yesterday. We use an extractor identical to yours. One word of caution: Be careful with the lever on the honey gate; mine broke off yesterday while I was trying to set the extractor upright after my husband cleaned it and left it out to dry upside-down. The gate still closes, but I'm hoping Dadant sells replacement parts.

If you haven't already, do yourself a favor and invest in one of those filter kits from Dadant. They're a little pricey (about $40 for two or three filters and a five-gallon bucket with a spigot on the front), but they make the task of filling jars soooooo much easier.

Thanks much, Redforkhippie.  There is a Dadant branch near us, I'll check it out to consider for the future.  We're going to get a bigger operation eventually, I'm already sold out of Spring honey!

I love this stuff. even though I know farming is hard work, the hubby and I want to move to a few acres and semi-sustain ourselves there. I really like all the stuff you share Missing Willow. We wish we had neigbors like you...
