I have to preface this by saying that my mom is really really hard to shop for. She doesn't like typical girly stuff and I usually end up getting her chocolate or something. I was really excited when I realized she could probably use some fabric baskets at home or work, and that I had been stockpiling some Southwestern style fabrics to use on something for her. She loves everything Southwest.

I used the tutorial from Pink Penguin, but I wanted to make a few sizes so I made the first one as written and then made one with 2 1/2 inch patchwork squares and another with 3 inch patchwork squares. Since it took me a bit to figure out the sizes of everything I thought I would share the alternate dimensions that I figured out too.

This is the smallest one that started with the 2 inch squares and follows the tutorial sizes.

It finishes at about 4" W x 6" L x 4 1/2" H

Patchwork Squares (24): 2 inches
Linen: 6" x 9 1/2"
Lining: 9 1/4" x 12"
Straps (2): 2" x 10 1/2"
Box the Corners: 1 3/4"

Medium Size with 2 1/2 inch squares
*This size and bigger really needs some interfacing on the lining if you use a fairly thin batting. The batting I use is the same I use for quilts and is low loft. This size and up the handles also look better if they are interfaced.

It finishes about 4 1/2" W x 7 1/2" L x 5" H

Patchwork Squares (24): 2 1/2 inches
Linen: 7 1/4" x 11 3/4"
Lining: 11 3/4" x 14 1/4"
Interfacing: 11 3/4" x 14 1/4"
Straps (2): 2 1/2" x 14 1/2"
Interfacing (1) 2 1/2" x 14 1/2"
Box the Corners: 2"

Large size with 3 inch squares.

Finishes about 6" W x 9" L x 6 1/2" H

Patchwork Squares (24): 3 inches
Linen: 9" x 15"
Lining: 15" x 18"
Interfacing: 15" x 18"
Straps (2): 2 1/2" x 16"
Interfacing (1) 2 1/2" x 16"
Box the Corners: 2 1/2"

Mom loved these and it was a total surprise!

She's a lucky, lucky mummy! They are lovely baskets.

Look twice, buy once. Nooooo
Look twice, decide I can make one instead.

These are fabulously practical and pretty!  And how nice to select fabrics that appeal to the receiver!

I think anyone would love these as gifts!
