Teal and Purple Mermaid Poppet.

I made this mermaid for puamelia in the Mini Poppet swap.


AlwaysInspired gave me some great information on how to go about making a mermaid. For the shape of her tail I actually took the leg pattern that inez used and then shared for her contortionist poppet Gloria. I just widened it at parts and added a fin instead of a foot at the bottom.

Her hair is Yarn Bee's Infatuation in the Ocean colorway and is amazingly soft. You could sit and stroke it all day. It does shed a little though.


When I had finished her body I thought she needed a little something, so I added seed beads to the bottom of her tail.


Her top is just a rectangle that I scrunched in the middle and then sewed over to keep it gathered in. In the back it is done up corset style.


And how could she not have a necklace?  Also you can see a closer shot of her top from the front.


She was pretty much done when I thought she was looking a little plain in the belly area so I added a belt. (It's non-removable.)


I love how she turned out and was so sad to see her go, as was my four year old daughter. She has consoled herself, however, by telling me I can just make her a pink one instead!

I love the tiny details!! Especially the octopus necklace.. and I really like the texture of her hair, its very mermaid-like I think.  Great job!

The kids do tho, so I got her back!  She is amazing, and thank you for sharing how you went about doing the tail. <3
