Every year for Easter my daughter and I dye eggs. When we're done I take coffee filters and we dye some of those too and then make flowers out of them. Unfortunately this year my son was in the hospital over Easter weekend, but we persevered and brought eggs to the hospital and dyed them in his room. One problem. No coffee filters! So no flowers. My daughter was disappointed so I thought quickly and grabbed a pack of dry wipes (very absorbent, slightly porous disposable cloths) and we died a bunch of those. Turns out they make lousy flowers because they're not stiff enough. But the cloths were so pretty I couldn't stand discarding them. So I decided to make an applique with them Cheesy

I found a cute dragon picture on the internet, drew it out by hand and then cut out the individual pieces of the image and used them as a template. Next I appliqued the dry-cloth pieces onto some natural muslin, layering the pieces and adding some embroidery detail as well. I gave the finished hoop to my mom for Mother's Day and she absolutely loved it.

Here are some pics of the finished piece:

And a close up so you can see the dry-cloth material better. I just love how the Easter egg dyes blended and mixed on the cloth.

The entire piece took around 5-7 hours I'd guess. I worked on it at night in the hospital so it was easy to lose track of time. There are just regular stitches in the piece with an eensy, teensy bit of satin stitch for the eyes.
