@whateverjames - thanks so much for your kind words.  This was actually my first big project.  I had done a couple of small cross stitch projects before this, but no actual practice for this one.   I sort of just dove into it!

Honestly, the best artwork does buck the traditional trends a bit, and your work referenced something relevant in our lifetimes, which is video games. Traditional cross stitch samplers have pictures of wildlife, flowers and homes. Honestly, we're not in the homesteading phase and none of us are pioneers anymore. It's cute that the tradition lives on, but it's also nice to have a little newness to an old craft.

Have you seen the subversive cross stitch lady? If what you made stirred the pot, her work definitely stirs the pot. Her work has the traditional look to it, but it uses a lot of potty language.

I know right? How do you work with that?! I guess I could but I am not really familiar with binary. It's not a huge loss. I have other crafts I am interested in making for our fair, but the sampler thing just bums me out

As someone who enters cross-stitch in the Kansas State Fair every year, I'm so proud of you! As someone who never wins with her cross-stitch in the Kansas State Fair every year (well, once I got 3rd place), I'm totally jealous!
My husband & I joke that until I do a church with an American Flag, kittens, firefighters & "Remember 9/11" stitched up, I won't ever win. Last year was the first year (of entering 7 years in a row) that I didn't get asked if I was dropping off a piece for my mother-never mind that I'm in my 30s.
