Thank you, high praise indeed coming from the original creator! I considered dying sock monkey socks like you did but just could not be troubled to run around town finding dye and then making my hands green with it, lol.

i don't think dyeing one's hands would be a requisite when dyeing the socks... i just always find a way to dye my hands funny colors. the important lesson i learned is to not wear the plastic gloves that come with the dye. i had a whole box of latex gloves... somewhere. just couldn't find them when i needed them.
