I was given one of these with my brother super galaxie 2000 and have not got a clue what to do with it. Can I only download pre-written embroidery patterns or can I write my own using some form of software? if this is the case, what do I need?
in my past working life I was a graphic designer/digital darkroom technician so am fully versed in illustrator, photoshop and GIMP...

please help, I'm completely clueless.

This just enables you to transfer files from your computer to the machine, I think. Did your machine also come with software?  If so, what type?

If you have experience with high end graphic design programs, you are probably going to be able to use digitizing software easily. SophieSew is a freeware digitizing program that you might want to give a try. There are others, too. ( Search for freeware embroidery digitizing software )

From another thread here:

Quote
Stitch Era Universal is free to download, I'm trying that at the moment.
Embird has a free 30 day trial, I only got to use it once before the trial was up so I don't know how good it is.

I haven't yet tried my hand at digitizing, but I will be investigating free digitizing options in a few months. I will report back here when I do that.
