I forgot after last year to post my anglerfish/mermaid costume that I spent so many painful hours handpainting! I started with an old prom dress, cut and resewed the sides and bottom, and then painted on these scales in silver textile paint, and made a glowing dangler thing out of wire and leftover material.

I can't get it to photograph right but there are also clear phosphorescent paint spots that I painted down the sides that glow in the dark:

They worked okay, and I would love to get some ideas from anyone on how I might be able to electrically wire the entire thing with LEDs or something without totally destroying the dress. Hope you like!

Here's a link for how to put LEDs on a shirt, which may or may not give you some ideas: http://blog.craftzine.com/archive/2009/05/how-to_led_robot_embroidery.html The dress is really pretty!

I'm looking for Simplicity 6340 (the 1970's sailor dress). PM me if you've got a copy to swop or sell! Cheesy
It is just so stinkin' addictive!

So cute I love this.

So many ideas so little time. Will I ever get them all done?

ohh wow that is just too cool! I love mermaids, I randomly did a search for "mermaid" (I'm new here, just checking it all out) and your dress is a great idea!  love it! (I don't know how to light it up though!)

I suggest google. Put in how to sew LEDs you'll find something good, if I find the link my teacher gave me I'll put it up here. I can tell you conductive thread will be your best friend.
