My daughters and I were invited to a Royal Wedding Viewing party by some English ladies where we live...so that means...HATS!!!

Being a crafty kind of person...can't buy them...no, no, no....and raising crafty children....they can't buy them either.  So we broke out the glue gun.

My hat is made from coffee filters and water colors...definitely the best hat of the party (if I do say so myself) and best of all it was entirely made of things I already had.  it's on a wire headband that I made and the circular part is a round plastic canvas piece with jersey fabric glued on.

For my girls, we picked up some colorful round placemats from walmart and they each designed their own.

This one was held on by a wire frame and the flowers are coffee filters which have some iridescent dust painted on (doesn't show up in the picture)

This hat has a collection of feathers I took off of something (can't remember what) and a couple of dipped purple coffee filter flowers.

And my youngest daughter painted stripes on hers and added little feathers to her coffee filter flower.

I was so impressed with their budding design skills!  All I did was operate the glue gun.  We had a great time at the party and everyone was jealous of our unique hats!

Fabulous! Better than some of the hats at the actual wedding!

Wow those are great!  And I agree with mingus, those are better than some at the actual wedding.  I love your use of the coffee filters as well, you made the look so elegant.  And the model look on your youngest is very sweet.

What a crafty family!  All of the hats are wonderfully fun!  It is hard to pick a favorite...each is so cleverly done and seems to suit the individual personalities!

Great job, Mom, for involving your kids in a wonderful historical event!

Those are awesome! I don't think I would have thought to use coffee filters. Your daughters are on their way to being creative geniuses!

Thanks so much for all the compliments everyone!  It was a really nice family time making the hats and the girls are finally getting to an age where they finish what they start.  I think I've infected them with do-it-yourselfness...lol.
