oh, and I forgot to mention...

Since I hadn't intended to create a standing skeleton, I didn't have a stand-- but when her dress got completely out of control, I needed a stand.

And so the stand is made from the cardboard ribbon "bobbin" (from the ribbon used in her dress) plus a bamboo skewer.

I admit I was very pleased with myself when I pulled that ribbon bobbin out of the "throwaway" pile on my worktable.

Holy hell, this is amazing. The attention to detail is topnotch. I was sufficiently impressed by the matchbox, and then I was like, "Oh cool, a ribcage" and then rational thought left me when I saw the finished product.  I can only imagine your partner's reaction when she received.

I don't swap because I am self-aware of my flakiness when it comes to letter-writing/card-sending and know that I can't just give up after months of no contact and email a craft to my poor neglected partner. It's amazing projects like this that make me really regret that flaky side of me (more than annoyed siblings and a nagging mother ever could).
