1940's style tilt hat

I found this wonderful vintage inspired dress while thrifting and loved it so much I knew I had to make a hat to go with it!

I used a free pattern (Debs Derby) as a jumping off point and made modifications to get the shape I envisioned. I made the hat smaller around by one decrease section and added short rows to the sides to make the brim wider there and narrower in the front and back. Also shorted the crown depth by several inches.



I knit this in Lion Brands Fisherman's Wool and it felted so beautifully. It's trimmed with a black grosgrain ribbon and a black felt applique of a swallow.
