Hi all!
So the Kentucky Derby was this weekend and our local bar had a derby party with a hat contest. I'm definitely not one to turn down an opportunity to craft something and then wear "silly" things with others, so I was sooooo up for it. I'm also a slacker at times so this was made the morning of the derby in about 3 hours. And I only burned myself twice!

Here's a pic of me with it on before I left. I wish I would have gotten more of a higher angle so you could see how the back feathers stood up and out, but oh well. And the rose in the center is a tad darker in real life, it's not really that bright looking.

So then I took some pics this morning in my messy workspace. The flash kind of washed everything out and distorted the colors a bit, bit I think you'll get the idea.
All the feathers and flowers are on the side, towards the front. That was a bit hard for me, being all OCD and everything, but I love how it looked. It wasn't too symmetrical nor was it too off balance.

The back had the bow from the first layer of tulle and then the ends from the magenta ribbon. Please don't mind the cord in all the pics. That goes to the lovely skull light that volunteered to model the hat.

The empty side.

A close up of the layers. Hat, then beaded fringe then layer one of tulle then ribbon and then layer two of tulle. All of the ribbon and tulle was stitched on by hand.

Then there's a closer look at the flowers and feathers. I used a few different types of feathers and two kinds of flowers. They were stitched and hot glued on.

Here I was trying to show how the back feathers kind went up and out.

Thanks for looking! I hope you like it! I totally am in love with it and I want to wear it all the time!
