First off, it's nice to be able to post a topic on Mother's Day about Mother Earth.

My camera hates the lighting in my house so bear with me.

First I wet felted a layered ball. The idea is you can open up the planet to see all the layers.

Let me break it down for you:
Inner Core
Outer Core
Mantle
Crust

A view of the Earth's surface

But wait, what's that swimming in the deep heading south?

A giant octopus! The clasp has a long loop so little fingers can easily play.

Oh, that's wonderful.
I like the educational nature of it as well as it will clearly be played with again and again.

I want one of these!  I love the look of the felted layers and continents, and the octopus is awesome.  This looks both amazing and fun-and-squishable at the same time, an A+ combination. Cheesy

I absolutely love this! I'd like to make one for my kids, I know they'd like it. Any tips?

I did a web search on how to felt wool balls because my wet felting is a hit or miss. In my search I came across a lot of tips. One being to cut the ball with an electric knife while the wool is a little damp. I'd love to see what you make!
