I sew all my poppets by hand, but those who have sewn them by hand say that it is importand to sew the stitches very small because you stuff the doll s much.

So many ideas so little time. Will I ever get them all done?

I did my first one by hand - she's my avatar. And yes, we had some great newbie poppets in the Plethora Swap, and yes small stitches work best. I've even seen some non-swap first poppets that are quite great! Come join us, it's summer now!

Ok new developments: I have been offered an almost brand new Janome Sew Mini machine for FREE! So one more question: I have limited sewing experience....is a poppet something only experienced sewists should attempt? Thanks for the help guys!

NOOO! That is awesome!
and
NOOOO! I am a ceramic major and a jewelry artisan. But I can sew a straight line (and a curved one) and follow a pattern - just read the instructions once all the way thru, then cut and sew. No problem. Besides, everyone is here to help, especially on the Poppet Along!
BTW, seems everyone that reviewed it loves that sewing machine:

Yay! This is a pleasant surprise... I log in to Craftster and see that there are three new participants!

I may fly in under the radar here.   I still haven't unpacked my material yet..

UNPACK THEM! Wink

Anyways, I just wanted to let y'all know that I am sorry if I have been a bit slow to respond to messages lately. My laptop died the other day so I had to buy a new one yesterday and am still getting used to using it. Hopefully I will be more active in a day or two.

I also just wanted to let any European swappers out there who are wondering whether or not to join this swap that we do have one swapper in the UK who is hoping to swap within the UK, so sign-up! Pretty please? Wink

Hahaha I'm laughing at myself because I thought I was so clever -
I cut 4 poppets when I started the last one, sewed 2. I thought, Yeah! I'm already part way there, so I started turning and stuffing - only to find out I sewed the face on upside-down! Tongue

Aw Avery, sorry bout the 'puter. I had that happen last year. It's gonna be a great swap!

I always do that! That is why I have started sewing the heads in the largest possible stitch that I can, because then I can easily rip the stitches out afterwards... (As opposed to back in the say when I would have miniscule stitches to rip out).

Anyways, I have started partnering people up in my head... Can't wait to see if anyone else decides to join up!

So happy to be in!   Cheesy

Also for those wondering, I was a new poppet maker in the plethora swap.   Please don't let that stop you, I had so much fun making her and everyone is SO nice and will answer ANY questions that you have.

Can't wait to get started on another one...but, alas, it must wait until after the weekend...my dd has a cheerleading competion that I am obligated ( Grin) to go to.  Smiley
