I've been wanting something to store my scrapbook paper in, but those big fancy plastic-drawer-thingies are expensive!! So... I made this:

It started it's life as an old cabinet for storing records in the 70s. Yeah... it's not real wood... and this picture was taken AFTER I scrubbed the whole thing out with Clorox... because there was something living in there...

Because it wasn't real wood, I couldn't get any paint to stick to it and look nice... so I picked out some paper that matched my craft room and decoupaged the sides of the cart. (the dark area in the middle is part of the paper design- it just photographed weird).

Then I made a new knob out of Fimo and a cushion for the top (partly to hide where I tried to paint it).

Why a cushion for the top? That's two less cats who are trying to sleep on my desk while I work.

I really love the way it turned out and since records are slightly larger then 12x12 paper, everything fits really well. There were enough shelves that I could organize my paper by color and theme. Smiley

Best part- the whole thing cost under 10$... which is a whole lot less then the store bough storage units.

I think it is a great paper storage cabinet, and I totally understand about the cats needing a place to hang out.  Mine seem to think if I lay down or sit down that means they need to be on me!

Isn't it crazy how expensive those storage things are? Well, yours is so much better!

What a cool redo! Those record cabinets are perfect for scrapbook paper...never thought about that. I just bought one of the storage carts today and even at 50% off it was expensive...I like yours better. Especially the place for the furries on top!
