I love this tutorial from Quiltmaker http://www.quiltmaker.com/blogs/quiltypleasures/2010/07/a-quick-quilt-label-method-and-a-giveaway/ but sometimes make it even more simple by using plain embroidery to leave my "mark" on a light colored fabric.

I tend to use Piga Micron markers to write a label out of white fabric, then sew it onto the back of the quilt.  Mainly due to its simplicity, and it was a suggestion by a veteran quilter that it might be easier than trying to embroider one, since I dont do embroidery very often.

I like to incorporate the label as part of the back. I piece a lot of my backings and will often insert a block with the label on it as part of the pieced back.
