I don't like sticking this patchwork type thing in here with all the lovely skillfully assembled quilts but I can't think where else it should go so here it is.

I have been collecting tshirts (ours that we outgrow and other fun ones that we find) as well as ugly old fleece clothes to cut up and use for crafts and the stash of them was just getting out of control. We're looking at a major move this summer too so I knew I had to do away with a lot of supplies but there was just no way I was giving everything away without making at least something out of it after all that cutting and carting it around from home to home. I thought I'd piece together a patchwork beadspread, we needed a new one and it would be a great way to see all our favourite old shirts all the time so I got cutting.

OMG, 4 or maybe it was even 5 nearly solid days of work later...

Front, nearly 80X80"

Back

Paul Frank shirts

Shirts hand painted or stencilled by me

Shirts from swaps here on Craftster

Bugs

My sister's old shirts

And my favourite of the lot

Some pieces were too small so I made patches with 4 squares so I could use all the fun little bits

The rest of the fleece is gone off to a new home (there was a rainbow coloured mountain of it left!) and the rest of the tshirt fabric has been cut up for fancy panties and little girl dresses for my daughter.

Thank you Smiley!
I'm going to work on another for my son someday, this one has far too much pink in it for him to want to keep when he gets older. I'll be smart about it though and stitch things together as he outgrows them instead of having to spend the better part of a week plowing through it all. It was quite frankly exhausting to do it this way and I feel like I need a few days before I'll be able to really enjoy it. I look at it right now and just remember all the endless cutting, pinning, rethreading the machine a thousand times because the thread broke and the back ache of it all. Ugh. The memories from all the clothes will eclipse that soon though, that's what happened with the patchwork quilt of tiny squares I made anyhow.

I was worth the work to make such a memory quilt!  It is way bigger than I thought---well done!  I especially love all of the pops of color!

It's way bigger than I thought it was going to be too, I don't know how that happened! I cut the squares 10x10" and there are 8 across and down and the seam allowance is about 3/8" but still the finished thing is nearly 80x80", now how did that happen?!
