This is the first bag I've ever made, so I'm pretty pleased with it.  I followed this tutorial (which I believe is made by another Craftster member): (http://pinoyinoz.blogspot.com/2008/07/tutorial-messenger-bag-with-zip-top.html) but lazily left off the zip closure as it looked too difficult for me.  I made this bag for one very cool 11 year old's birthday because the White Stripes love must be encouraged in children!

There's loads of things a bit wrong with this bag.  I just hacked the lettering out of some random cloth I had lying around, and while I like the scruffy edges I'm less fond of the off-white clashyness with the purer white of the striped fabric.  Pretty much all the seams are a little wonky and I broke my last sewing machine needle part way through and had to do the rest by hand.  I kept using crappy threads that got tangled up and I think some parts of the bag were too thick for the machine to cope.  I'm still not fully bonded with my sewing machine, but we'll get there...maybe.

I had loads of fun though and maybe there'll be more (hopefully unwonky, unclashy) bags posted here in the future (if my sewing machine ever forgives me).
