Babette blanket crochetalong?
«
on:
May 05, 2011 10:41:34 AM »
While looking for granny square patterns I accidently found this one and I just have to make one!
Anyone who's also (planning to) making this blanket? We can motivate each other and share pictures of our progress and finally our completed blankets.
The pattern can be found on Ravelry:
http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/babette-blanket
.
I -to be honest- don't use the pattern (just refuse to pay for what I can make with some common sense
) but printed the picture of the whole blanket and divided it in 10 sections with a colour pencil.
This is what I made so far:
and 2 more after taking this picture.

This looks like fun! The 80 GDs from the GD Swap R7 will make a great start. Not sure when I'll be able to get a good start on a babette blanket, but I'll bookmark this thread, just in case.

I started one last month and posted pics in the regular granny CAL but haven't made much progress yet. I am just learning crochet so every time I see something new I have to learn it and the last new thing gets put on the back burner. Crochet ADD? Yes! Maybe posting in 2 CAL's will force me to do more. hehe
I did start one new 12" block with a floral center and think I will do all of the 12" in something different to add some spice.

BennuBird, I love that flower motif! I want to do something similar with mine. Squares are fine, but flowers fun.

Good idea to add some other motifs. I also made some (from the 'beyond the square book/CAL), but I'm not sure yet if they'll look nice in my blanket.
How do you all plan on joining the squares?

I don't have the original pattern, but I would assume it is just stitched together. I don't know if I would like it as much in single crochet, would need to see it.

You mean slip stitch? I'll try that too. I almost finished all squares for my first section and now I'm experimenting with joining methods...progress pics soon!

Well I've almost finished one of the biggest squares. I'm using greens, yellows, white, maybe some black and a couple of balls of mini mochi rainbow. Stash busting really. I had a ton of yarn in the right weight. I'll try to post pics as soon as I'm able.

Sounds good; I'd love to see pics!
Here's what I did so far. I still looks like a mess, because I haven't woven in any ends yet, but all squares for the first section are done.
(my foot for size reference
)
And the pile (just for fun):
Well, got some weaving to do.......

Thanks
I joined all the squares for the 1st section, but (bad me, bad me) haven't woven in the ends yet. So now have to weave in only about a 100-ish of them
BennuBird, I like your motifs; have you made more already?

Looks great IdlersDesign! All those ends would drive me insane to try and do. hehe
I've been crochet ADD again, I started a Christmas star throw from Coats & Clark, designed my own 6" square I call orbs in the dark for another afghan, an offset center granny also from C&C , and a granny for Project Linus. The Babette has gotten no attention at all this month. =( I should bring out my Babette tote bin and force myself to make some blocks today.

I have been crocheting for a few months now, mostly amigurumis. I have had no trouble reading patterns for those little critters, but for what ever reason I just cannot get the hang of a granny square. Is there a pattern any one could share that is suitable for beginners?

I love the look of this Babette blanket! How is everyone doing with theirs? I love the colorfulness and the different sized squares. I have some orphan squares I would like to use. I almost bought a bunch at the goodwill awhile ago, and now I wish I had...oh well.

This is pretty cool! I felt like the original was awesome but possibly too modern arty for say, my couch, but seeing you guys' beginning I realize it can be a little less jarring with the right colors. FUN.

I'm doing an after school crochet activity this year, and I'm hoping that we can make a blanket out of our randomly sized squares. Not quite a Babette blanket because we're using "traditional" granny squares, but the idea will be the same!

that1girl, I think it looks rather snuggly!
But it definitely has some "texture" that doesn't look like the original. Did you use different yarn weights? Or, maybe it has something to do with the sizes of the blocks?
Maybe you could block it- if it's acrylic, I think you just need to wet it, and then pin it down and let it dry (I'm not actually sure... I've never tried it).
I really like how the colors look all stitched up, especially with those pops of gold!

that1girl, the colors and layout are beautiful! Blocking is a must in these things, I find you have to block pieces before you sew them together, AND after. It can still misbehave though : /
