Spring is heeeeeeere!

What better way to celebrate than making a 50s inspired spring dress? I used Simplicity New Look 6675 and a black and white polka dot rayon fabric (it breathes so nicely!).

I bought a one-size-fits-all petticoat online to wear underneath to get that 50s poof. (I need to take in the waist of the crinoline as it kept falling down. After an adjustment it won't hang so much below the hem). Thanks for looking, have a wonderful springy, sprungy, poofy day!

I actually really like how much the petticoat hangs down from the hem, but we don't want it falling off of you! Don't hike it up toooooo much!

I've been looking around at 50's inspired dress and this one is great that and your photos are great. I'll have to check out that pattern. I'm starting my own little business and one of my friends said I need do a retro 50's housewife look with a green apron. I think something like this would be great. Great Job!

I seriously ADORE this.   I'm looking for something like this to wear to my sister's wedding in August...any clue if a plus-size pattern exists in this or something similar?  I also really like the little jacket in the pattern as well.   I'm not really used to showing off my upper arms.  Tongue

Hmmph. The dress pattern I used goes up to a (sewing) size 18, but they don't specifically list a plus-sized version of that (and looking through Simplicity...and McCalls, and Butterick, I can't believe how limited the plus size selection is Angry). However, the Dragon Dress tutorial/pattern is pretty close to this dress pattern! So I recommend to all you ladies, from size 2 to 22, to try it out. The main difference is the skirt; to get the volume (and enough room for the petticoat to fit!) my dress has 6 panels. You could always buy a retro dress pattern to get the skirt, and then make a halter/tank top and stitch em together? :S Or maybe try adjusting the parts for a few other patterns? Sorry :S

I haven't made the jacket yet, only because I already have two boleros, but regardless if its made or bought, a little white jacket does look really cute with this dress! (Mine is elbow length; makes my arms look less sticky.) Don't forget a flower for the hair and a sweater-guard!

The dress looks amazing, and the fabric looks so nice and light. The petticoat showing at the bottom looks really cute too.

Wow! that's really cute. for my personal preferences it's way too long, I prefer shorter dresses for movement, and the fact that I'm incredibly short anyways, ha. I especially love the petticoats, and bust.
