Thanks everyone!
I lost the original packaging in a move... I really wish I would have saved it.  It was definitely from the late 70s, early 80s.

There were so many different kind of stitches, it was really kind of fun to do.

I actually moved and thought I lost the piece.  I cried when I couldn't find it.  Then, last week, I found it safely hidden in some tablecloths I had inherited from my Great Grandmother that were in a kitchen drawer I never use.  It was a happy reunion!

Thank for all of your kind words!

It's definitely from the early 80's--my mother made this exact same kit for my room.  I don't know when it was made, but I was born August 1981.

WOW ... *this rocks*!!! I love Jim Henson and still occasionally watch Sesame Street. It's a classic! And, your stitching is beautiful!

I love this. Sometimes I see embroidery and it looks "kind of" like the characters it's meant to represent. But, this ... this is exactly like them. You nailed it!

I especially love Oscar. He was my absolute favorite.  Cheesy

I've never seen anything like it! What a lot of fill stitching, too. It's great! I think turning it into a mini quilt would be perfect.
