Jewelry Tree (Warning: Big pictures!)

I made my sister a bunch of purse charms (that I fondly call purse bling) this past march for her birthday and I wanted to make her something that she could display them, some kind of jewelry hanger.  I found some cute ideas on the internet for a jewelry tree, which is essentially a thick tree branch screwed onto a base and varnished (or painted).  So, without further ado I give you my sister's jewelry tree:


My husband and I found this branch.  We evened out the end that would attach to the base (my husband was super excited to get to use his power tools!)  We sanded it down, sanded the base down (we got the base from Home Depot.  It was nice and thick!)  We screwed the tree into the base and then applied the vanish.  Its a dark reddy brown.  To girly it up I made some flowers (tute from here, thanks barbolot, they were the perfect touch!) and hot glued them on.  My sister's bedroom is red and black, so it fit in perfect!

And here it is doing its job, holding my sister's purse bling. 


I love how knobby this branch was!  Perfect for its purpose!  Hubby loved the end result so much that he wanted to keep it.  I guess he will just have to live with visiting rights.

I'm pretty sure it was dead.  It was really dried out when we got it.  I'm glad you like it!  ^_^

OK, clearly I meant to say "use" not "lose".  It's been a long week!   

Back on topic, I'm going to be keeping my eyes open for interesting branches now!

I figured that's what you meant.  ^_^ I've gotten pretty good at deciphering meaning.  My boss constantly sends me unintelligible texts because her phone likes to auto correct.  Gotta puzzle out her meaning.  Good times.

This is great! I've seen similar things in shops for crazy amounts of money and yours looks better . It looks so pretty with all of the trinkets hanging on it. Great job!

Wow, that is awesome!  I friggin' love halloween.  Its my favorite holiday!  I so want one!!!

Thanks!  I know, I'm quite surprise how much he got into it.  I felt like I was dragging him to the river to help me find an appropriate branch but after that he got excited and totally jumped in.

Thanks!  Yeah, it is actually not expensive to make at all.  The base was like $1.50, and then you need sandpaper, a small container of stain, and a brush.  The whole thing took under $10 to make and not very long in all to put together.
