So my daughter reminded me the other day that she needed a costume for her book character day at school (This week is Young Author's Week).  When we were on our way home we discussed various characters: Ms. Frizzle from the Magic School Bus, Ponyo, etc.  Then I suggested Totoro.  Luckily I found an old grey zipup hoodie that she had and that barely fit her.

I used cheap craft felt and had this an hour later.

Totoro reading his favorite book

Lana liked it!  And that was good enough for me.  She was so excited to wear it to school today.  Too bad none of her friends knew what she was.  Oh well.  Smiley

I am definitely going to make another and next time I'm going to use fleece.  It is just too fun.  Enjoy!

Looking for a vintage magazine (1974 - 1978) that has a fabric nativity set w/ people and animals. An example: http://www.craftster.org/pictures/showphoto.php?photo=440861&ppuser=143144.

jennythor: Thank you for your kind comments!  Lana is my pride and joy.  Smiley

chattyKathi: I wish I could take credit for the idea, but there are lots of them on Craftster.  I took a shortcut and reconned a hoodie while the others made theirs from scratch.

missmoppet: I'm sure yours will turn out awesome.  It is really a fun and quick project!

phoenixfiredesigns: Hehe, thank you PFD!   Embarrassed

Dawl: WHAT!  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Neighbor_Totoro
I'm sure your GDs would love to watch this film.  You can usually get it at the library.  Lana has the Miyazaki collection.

luckdragon: Thanks Luck!  Smiley

Pseudo: Thank you!  Lana really rocked it I thought.  Smiley

Thanks for all of your wonderful comments.  They made me smile from ear to ear!  Smiley
