I'm needing help making the top. I have the skirt finished but I've never made a top like this. I am somewhat of a novice at sewing. I've looked online on how to make it. the convention is a little over a month away and I'm worried I wont get this done. >.> I don't know anyone that could help, so alas I decided to call on you amazing Craftsters to give me advice. I really hope someone could point me in the right direction. ^.^

That's adorable!!! I think you could make it more or less like a tube top with elastic at the top and bottom. The stripy fabric can be doubled over to serve as an elastic casing. Like so:

To figure out how long the elastic should be, just stretch a length around your ribcage until it's snug but not tight. That should be anywhere from 2 to 5 inches shorter than your ribcage measurement, depending on the type of elastic.

Thank you so much!!! I will be sure to post pictures in the completed costumes section!!! ^.^ I have rainbow elastic I used for the skirt. 5 yards for $5 on ebay!!! ^.^ http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc6/217070_10150158318835994_751080993_6867030_643010_n.jpg that's the skirt so you can see the elastic used for it. I couldn't find polka dot knit material but I think this will work pretty well. I have snap ribbon so I can easily put it on!

They even sent another roll of it even though I didn't pay for the 2nd roll. I'm not complaining. ^.^
