Crafting to keep insanity at bay.

Heyyy so I had a brilliant strike of inspiration. The hoopla swaps are hugely popular and I'm starting to see their influence in a lot of other swaps too, so I thought how great would it be to have an ongoing hoopla swap, much like the OWS structure, where participants sign up and then list 5 - 10 themes that could be claimed on. You could also specify in your wishlist that you like/dislike 3-d, monochromatic, etc. I'm thinking to start with FOCs could get 3 outstanding claims at a time, non-FOCs could get 2 claims at at time, and then any new swappers would start with 1 claim at a time much like the OWS....any thoughts??? I'd love to get this started right away if there's enough interest.

That is a brilliant idea, sheepblue!  Also a great way to fill in some things that I've been wanting for my hoopla wall Smiley  As with any hoopla swap, let me know where and when and I'll be there  Tongue

Sounds like a great idea to me!  It's hard for me to know what my schedule of available time will be 2 or 3 months in advance so the OWS style of swapping suits me very well.  Thanks for taking the initiative on this one, sheepBlue.  Keep me posted!   Cheesy

Yeah that was one of the main problems I was having with the big hoopla swaps was that the timing hasn't been right and I really really want to join. This way its laid back, and helps everyone fill up their walls with awesomeness  Grin I was thinking 2 weeks between claiming and shipping would be doable. Anyone agree? Disagree?

Also if this turns into a big thing if anyone wants to step up as co-organizer let me know.

I think it's a great idea!

The only worry I have is that having 3 outstanding claims with a two week turnaround might be a challenge. In the OWS, given that each claim is only a minimum of a medium, having 3 claims on the go can sometimes be a stretch. I don't know about other stitchers, but any hoops I do are usually way more than a medium in time, and I'd be worried that people might find it too easy to overcommit. I'd suggest a 2 claim max, or a 3 week turnaround. But others may disagree!

That is a really good point. I thought the same but I guess I was hoping people would be honest to themselves in how much they feel they can accomplish in that period of time....either solution would work great I think. I think adjusting the crafting time to 3 weeks is definitely doable.

I'm having similar thoughts, jemimah.  I think a 3 week turnaround would be better.  Two weeks can be hard even just with supply claims in the OWS sometimes - shopping usually has to wait for the weekends for me since craft stores are all 45 minutes or more away.  I think if we had the longer working time we could leave the number of claims allowed at 3/2/1 and just trust the claimers to use their judgement based on the time they expect to invest in the project.  If it doesn't seem to be working out well after a couple of months it could always be changed.

I haven't organized before, sheepBlue, but there's no reason not to - I'll be happy to lend a hand when you're ready!   Smiley

Three weeks definitely sounds good- lots of things could easily interfere with a two week time limit.  I can't wait Smiley
