I bought really nice parts for the hardware. I probably  spent around 60 dollars on the whole thing.

I finished the inside with vinyl tape.

This is really cool.  Was it difficult to get through the plastic to install the hardware?

Currently interested in doing a personal swap, I'm thinking retro-look/rockabilly clothing. Let me know if you'd be interested. ^_^

I think (no, I KNOW) my family would throw a hissy fit if I even mention doing this to our old nintendo, but this is sooo cool!

Now I kinda want to call up all the pawnshops in town and see who still has an NES for cheap. This is so cool.

This is beyond cool. I'd make one for myself, but I doubt I have the mechanical prowness to figure out how...

Is it still very heavy, even with it being gutted?

I give myself very good advice, but I very seldom follow it.

I have zero mechanical prowness. I just bought the parts and made sure they lined up then used a screwdriver and hand drove the screws. I had no idea what I was doing. Hahah.

And no, it's not heavy at all actually. All the weight was in the internal stuff.
