I found these hanging baskets at goodwill for $5 each and knew exactly what to do with them. You can read more about my inspiration on my blog here:

Very nice! How did you fix the lightbulb socket into the basket?

I created a ring to go around the top of the lamp assembly, and then made a sort of spiderweb from that and attached it to the frame of the cage. I used black wire so that it wouldn't show. The spider web prevents the lamp from pulling all the way through the hole.

Yes. I dismantled the chain from one and used the individual links to put them together. It's a pain to change the light bulb, but I used a CFL, so that shouldn't be a problem too often. One of the reproduction antique bulbs would be prettier.

I really like this idea. It reminds me of a lamp made from an old coleman lantern that was super cool.

This is so cute! I love the shape.

I'd put fabric or something on the inside since I don't like naked bulbs (or partially naked ones), but I had never thought about making a light with hanging cage baskets before.

Ooh or you could add danglies!

So many cool riffs possible on a very, very thrifty idea.

That came out great; it's very "professional" looking, like something you'd get at a high end home goods store.

It's bad enough wasting time, without killing it.
