I really want to sign up already so that I can start my book... but I just cant decide on a theme.

Im stuck between  'Encyclopedia of' , 'Stitches and Folds' or  'Fill Me with Stories'
-or to just go with a totally random one with 'Forks and Spoons'

I think maybe Im slowly pulling towards Stitches and Folds becuase perhaps it would be a different sort of challenge for me to incorporate them...

*sigh* shall I just bite the bullet?

Okay, since I can't always envision what things look like - I have to make models or prototypes of them.
This is what I plan to do:

I hope to do the front and back, with a continuous black line connecting all of the panels. I will collage and sew and who knows what else. That's the plan today - we'll see what happens when I begin working on this.

Thats a pretty awesome plan Smmarrt and I love the fact that you made a mock up Cheesy I have the same problem when it comes to envisioning things.

I'm hoping to finish up the page I started on last weekend this weekend. Perhaps by Sunday or Monday I'll have pictures to post.

I got the idea from a CNN video on the Art House Coop (old web site) that featured the first Sketch book project:

http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/living/2009/04/27/barral.sketchbook.project.cnn?iref=allsearch

And this video from YouTube:

And this one:

One more:

So not so original, just like breaking the rules, in an acceptable way!

Signed on and hope to get my book soon. My theme is 'Uncharted Waters'. I'm not really sure why yet, but that was the one I kept going back to.
I've been enjoying reading this thread. Everyone's enthusiasm is inspiring and so cheerful....can't wait to start my book!

Opalgryphon- what a gorgeous start to your journal! I love the palmistry page, especially because it really sets you off on your journey.

And Smmarrt, what a great idea to plan your book as a fold-out! Will you be using the original sketchbook pages all glued into one panel, or substitute some other paper?

Over dinner last night, I chatted with one of my art teacher friends and she said that first, I need to practice contour, then value, and then perspective (or maybe perspective then value). And she said I shouldn't erase, because my mistakes will be a good way for me to gauge my progress. I need to find something interesting to draw so I can use it over and over again as I work on my skills... I'll have to see what I have that would make a good candidate. I have a large conch shell somewhere that could be perfect... if I can find it...
