I've wanted to sign up for this the last couple of years, but I'm afraid that once I finish my sketchbook I won't want to let it go. Has anyone else had this problem?

I wondered about letting it go too.

I thought I saw somewhere that someone had just made photo copies of their regular journal and pasted them in the book, but that isn't what I would want to do.

Oh, yet another thing I want to join in on! I'm going to sit on it for a few days and if it is still knawing at me to do it..I'll join in. Maybe I can convince one of my friends who is dying to start journaling (but a bit pencil shy) to do it with me.

Gah...I'm going to have to start saving my pennies since my nickels and dimes are all spoken for, and the IRS already owns my quarters.  Sucks being nearly thirty and unable to come up with $45...although I suppose I could save $20 by scanning it myself and making my own page!  Ha!

Will probably join within the next month or so, ALL or my spending cash is spoken for at the moment.  I'm thinking about the "Along the line" theme and doing the little (and big) things that happen while going about your daily life.

For those who have done this before, how many pages are in one of these?  The picture on their site looks like a small paper bound sketchbook, which has significantly fewer pages than a traditional sketchbook.

There were tons of pages in the last book. More than you'd like.  Cheesy

I believe they're going to use a different type book this year, though. Many of us rebound the books to use heavier paper. I removed all the pages in mine and did a mixed paper journal. I was feeling way too frisky when I did it, though, and ended up with about 85 pages, which was more than I could handle. I ended up gluing some pages together, and tearing some out.  Cheesy

One of the books we saw in the show had one giant fold out page which was a life sized portrait of the artist. You can do whatever you want to your book, as long as it all fits into the covers of the book.

I'm going to do this, because it scares me and my goal this year is to do things that scare me. (I have a hard time calling myself an artist.) Also it just sounds fun and challenging. Smiley I just have to decide on a theme.

Hmmm...how would we go about this? I think its got potential.

I'm probably going to do mine kind of like a family album, using vintage cabinet cards and coming up with story behind each person. Sometimes it might be a very creepy, tragic story (do you remember my story behind the picture of the boys from the Altered Ancestor swap we did?) and sometimes it might be kind of silly. What do you think of me showing you the picture I'm going to use on a page and you throwing out some key words or ideas that I have to work into the story attached to the picture?

Made a list of the this year's themes and I have two wacky ideas.

For "The Companion Books" - two swappers could work in tandem (close friends and geography or faraway and online, and not friends), prompting each other and the two finished sketchbooks would be complimentary.

I absolutely LOVE that idea.

aroze, since you and I chose the same theme, maybe we should try to work together. We'll have to at least boot each other every now and then to keep on track.  Cheesy

so, i decided to go without digitizing my book because I'm not to sure how the concept would work in digital form (it has a lot to with layers and selective revealing of pages) But now I'm wondering would it have worked anyway?  bah... maybe I should have looked at last years gallery...

Does anyone know how to do that?  View last year's gallery online?  The ones who chose to digitize, anyway....  I looked for that the other day and couldn't find it.

At the moment I don't think you can. They're revamping their website and the majority of it isn't accessible right now.
