felt applique and embroidery on ultrasuede
6" hoop

This piece only took about a week (I was feeling really motivated to see it finished and up on the wall).  I plan on putting it in a flexi hoop once they arrive but they are currently still in transit from the east coast.  It's pretty much all back stitch with a little satin stitch on the face and underneath the bomb.  It took some experimenting to get the flap right (there are a few failures sitting in the waste basket) but I ended up sewing two pieces of felt together to give it enough weight and stability.  I did one eye right at the beginning to make sure I could actually make it look nice (I didn't want to finish the whole thing and then scrap it because I couldn't do the eyes) then I got nervous that I wouldn't be able to make them even so I did the second eye last.  Luckily they turned out and I'm quite satisfied with the finished product.  There's more info on my tumbr blog post about this piece: http://embroidnerd.tumblr.com/post/5722332338/velma-von-tussle-felt-applique-and-embroidery-on
