Mini Magnetic Memory Game

My husband and I are planning an 8 hour road trip for vacation this year.  We have 3 children, 5,3, and 1.  It is an undertaking as they are only used to traveling a total of about 4 hours at a time.  So, I have been planning different things for the drive: making new travel toys for them.  Here is one I've finished.



I used 1 1/4" wooden disks, mod podge, and clipart on paper to make the "cards." Found cute hinged lid tins at Hobby Lobby for $1.99.  (You could use an altoid tin, but would need to make smaller "cards" and then only about 6 sets will fit.)



Then, I attached magnet buttons to the bottom of each disk.

What a fun idea...  I'm totally putting this on my list of 50 Things.  We're taking a 2 day road trip next summer and my daughter (who will be 3) will need lots of stuff like this to keep her busy.

What a clever idea! It is a challenge to keep children occupied on long trips (you can only handle so many singalongs! )

Can't wait to see what else you come up with...how nice to be able to make your own games and fun things to do...a coloring book and crayon holder is an idea that I have used...each kid has her own in the car and don't seem to mind driving with me on shorter trips, especially if they get ice cream for coloring a nice picture to hang on the fridge!

Very cute! I have a 2 1/2 year old that would thoroughly enjoy this. I do have a question though... how do they match them up? Just flip it over with the magnetic side facing up?

Mix them up....flip them all face down (magnet facing up)...play just like normal.  Pick 2 and see if they match.  When they match, we leave them there magnet side down, picture facing up...they don't move around because they're magnetic.  In truth, they don't really need to be magnetic but they double as just magnets on the travel tray for the youngest, and as I mentioned, they don't move around while the kids are trying to play the game.  Did I make sense?

Great idea...my son NEEDS a memory game, and this is easier than a sewn version.  Thanks for sharing!

good luck on your trip, 8 hours is horrible for kids. But at least they have some nice toys to play with
