Magic Yarn ball of Doom- (A spinners MYB!)
«

SO you've seen the Magic Yarn ball swaps.... and there even was a Magic ROVING ball swap once... now its our turn!
The idea of the swap is that you spin up some yarn for your partner then wrap it up just like a normal MYB but here's the catch! Everything in the ball is spinning related. SO dyes, rovings, little bits of unusual fibres (firestar, silks, angelina etc), spindles, curly locks, labels, even threads, beads and other little things you can use to spin or dye with! The possibilities are endless!
All levels of spinners would be welcome, and there will even be a question of who you would prefer to be paired with in case you are new and want to swap with someone else who is new to spinning!
Now the only questions are how much yarn should be swapped (I was thinking 2-4 oz.?) and who wants in on the fun!
I can organize as soon as there's enough interest and everyone is ready!

You ditched the other thread talking about this to start this one? Someone should add this link to that discussion then, I think. You know I'm down. I'm going to go track down the other thread and link this one.

This is a neat idea but this swap could get expensive really quick and time consuming. I think I would like to have a more concrete idea on the requirements.
I've been spinning for 1 year and I spin on drop spindles only so 4 ounces of yarn takes me quite a bit of time to spin.

In regards to what DesignVigilante said, maybe you could have a 4oz category and a 2oz category, same way you pair beginners, intermediate, etc. I'm just learning so 2oz would be more my speed. I'd love to do this, but don't have much crafting time until after finals (Mid-May).

I thought there was more interest in this. Come on, ladies! Do we need to put another word up in the spinning boards? I agree about the 2oz vs 4oz option, but I wouldn't really be too upset with sending 4 and receiving 2 as long as there were other goodies involved.

That's actually a good idea. spinning 2 ounces is totally feasible for me and then maybe i could include 2 ounces of fiber for a total of 4 ounces of fiber goodness.

that would be a good idea! Send a total of 4 oz, wth a minimum of 2 oz spun. might not be the biggest myb, but I bet it would be awesome anyway.

I could organize some kind of MYB swap. I still think a handspun MYB would be cool though.

I count! Besides, there is a fiber swap going on. I know you commented on it. I bet if you really wanted to, you could make it an MYB. Handspun MYB with fiber in the middle. Ooh, it would be like one of those goo-filled chocolates!

i like the idea of including handspun/fiber in a normal myb. I have done it in the past. I love the hunt for little things to include, and planning all my little crafts, I love the winding, the unwinding. It's kind of a ritual that I miss..... I need MYB in my life!

I could use a magic yarn ball in my life too.
What kind of swap is everyone interested in? Should we just stick with the usual MYB round 15 or swap 2 oz of handspun with a couple of spinning/yarnie treats thrown in there (extra fiber, spindle, knit/crochet tools etc...). We could even do something themed like Handspun Hat or Fingerless Gloves MYB with a pattern of choice and a few things thrown in there.

I think sticking with the original MYB theme is probably the best idea. Those who don't spin would still be able to join. I could include something on the questionnaire for those who wanted to swap handspun if there is an interest in that.
The basic theme is a pattern of your partners choice, enough yarn to make that pattern and 15-20 small things (4-5 of which are crafted) all wound up and hidden in a ball of yarn. Partners would be matched according to the type or amount of yarn they would like to swap.
I could start sign-ups tomorrow (Monday Oct.3 or Oct.4) and run them untill October 17. 3 weeks for send-outs Monday November 7. I'm also cool with 4 weeks for crafting (Nov.14).
How does this sound?
