Polka Dot Unicorn

I made this unicorn for my 4 year old niece's birthday. It's not the first unicorn I've made, but it's the first one that I wasn't too embarrassed to post here. I used a pattern - Simplicity 2921, but I'm slowly working on drafting my own patterns. It's made from flannel (my favorite stuffed animal fabric) and stuffed with polyfil and some poly pellets in the legs. I hope you like it!

No, and it's even a sort of large weave so you have to watch out for pulling the threads apart if you're not careful when hand stitching. It can be kind of a pain, but I really like the clarity of the printing since it's not fuzzy like fleece. I also just like the way it feels.

Cute! I have that pattern set too, but haven't ventured past the elephant yet. He's just so adorable I didn't think any of the others would measure up, but the unicorn is really nice!

Heh, that's sort of how I've been about the unicorn, but I at least plan to make the elephant. Also, my niece did end up loving it and now I've been asked to make another for her best friend's birthday in a couple of weeks. Oh, and its name is apparently Horn.

The pattern really isn't difficult - it was the first one I ever used for a stuffed animal and while the first one turned out sort of wonky, it was entirely due to my lack of experience with sewing in general. And even that was still a respectable first effort that my 4 year old niece saw no flaws in. I guess all I'm saying is that even if you suck at sewing from a pattern, I bet it'll turn out fine and your daughter will love it.
