[April Fool's Day] CRAFTSTERLAND CLASS: Make Your Own Sewing Machine!

Class:
Make Your Own Sewing Machine!
(for more info on Craftsterland in Craft Nebraska, check this out:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=377142.0
Teacher:
Aislynn
Location:
Craftster Compound, Metal Shop and Computer Lab
Class Size:
42 students
Class Description:
Have you spent hours searching for that perfect sewing machine? The one that does it all, comes with everything, and doesn’t cost a fortune? Well this class will teach you how to build your own! We’ll be making a fully functioning electric machine with up to 120 built-in stitches that you’ll program yourself. The class will take up to 12 hours, with two breaks for meals, to be provided by the Craftster Compound’s cooking classes.
Please be prepared to use light welding equipment.
Cost:
$95 per person for the class cost plus $120 per person for materials. At the end of class, you may purchase the machine you’ve worked on for only $75! Any machines not purchased then will be sold on Etsy and the profit will go to support Craftster.
What to Bring:
• A minimum of one gallon of coffee, prepared and sweetened to your personal taste. We don’t want anyone getting sleepy around the torches!
• A pack of universal needles.
• Scrap metal
• Duct tape
• Paper clips
• A motherboard, compatible with PC programming.
• A kitchen stand mixer, gently used is fine.
• Protective Eye Gear (rhinestones encouraged!)
• Heavy Work Gloves elbow length
**Stay and for an extra $100 and six hours, equip your machine for machine embroidery! You can use it in our Embroidery Class!
**Take your protective gear and any dinner scraps over to PixieVal’s Trash to Treasure class!
Picture courtesy of Sarah at The Delicious Life! She'll be helping us out by lending us her spare torches. Thanks bunches!

Wow, jungrrl, that's awesome! I may enlist you to help out some of our less coordinated Craftsters! We don't want any burned fingers or toes in this class.

Do we have to wear full make-up to this class? It won't hurt my newly done acrylic nails, will it?

Makeup is completely optional, PixieVal, but everyone should remember to get a complete manicure prior to coming to class. Your nails should be a minimum of 1/2" past the tip of your finger, and while nail is entirely optional, stick-on jewels are completely mandatory. We want to be sparkly and pretty as we do our coding at the computers. Thanks for reminding me, always! Your lovely nails will fit right in.
Of course, actual formal wear is entirely optional as well, but you should probably err towards cocktail attire. Always, perhaps the skirt you're making in your class will be appropriate?

Val, that tutorial is : HERE.
And if you stay for our additional embroidery machine-add-on segment, your machine will absolutely be able to spell words! However, you will be limited to the Segoe Script font, Kanji, and classic Arabic. We've determined that these are the most used fonts in machine embroidery, so we won't be wasting our time with the others.

Absolutely, Mare! However, just in case, you may want to provide your own gerbil with something for him (or her) to NOM, just to make sure it's playing the video accurately.

I like you, so yes. Small guinea pigs would also be acceptable, as long as they are sufficiently cute.

No worries, Val! All of the furry critters will be kept in the computer lab and away from the metal shop. Maybe we can get the folks over in HSH to make them some little furry critter homes, all decorated in Craftster style! No animals will be harmed in the making of your sewing machines. All humans, however, will be required to sign a waiver.

I made my machine using the brochure you sent me in advance, Aislynn!
I tested it for you to be sure that everything worked...I would have sent you pics but I had to make an emergency room stop...I was so excited to test it that I didn't even feel that I was embroidering parts of the kharma sutra poses on my hand...oopsy!
I know it will be a great class for you anyway!!
